After living in the Netherlands for the past five years with my 9-year-old twins, we've had the chance to explore so many fun and magical places across the country. From hidden gems to must-visit spots, here are our top 5 favorite things to do in the Netherlands — all tested and loved by kids (and grown-ups) alike!
1. Hans & Grietje Pancake House

This place is pure magic — and not just for kids! The entire restaurant is designed like a wicked witch’s house, with enchanted rooms, moving floors, upside-down rooms (yes, there’s even a piano on the ceiling!), and plenty of other surprises.
The magic doesn’t stop indoors — the huge outdoor playground is incredible! It features giant trampolines, slides, haunted houses, and in the summer, water play areas too.

And that’s just the setting… the menu is just as fun! They serve crazy pancakes with all kinds of sweet and savory toppings (my favorite is the salmon one!). You’ll also find cakes, ice cream, nachos, and more.
👉 Important: Reservations are a must! You can choose to sit indoors or in one of the four themed patios outside.

2. Efteling
I’m sure you’ve heard of this magical theme park — and if not, I’m so happy to be the one to introduce you to it! ✨

Efteling is all about magic, adventure, and unforgettable memories. The park is filled with rides for all ages, from gentle story-themed attractions to thrilling roller coasters.
One of the most charming areas is the Fairy Tale Forest, where you walk past adorable little houses, each one bringing a classic story to life — like Little Red Riding Hood
The entire park is beautifully designed with enchanted details and dreamy scenery, making it feel like you’ve stepped into a fantasy world.
Whether you're 5 or 95 — it’s a place you’ll never forget.

3. The National Aviation Museum – Aviodrome
We’ve been to Aviodrome at least three times, and my kids still ask to go back — it’s that amazing!

Though it’s officially an aviation museum, there’s so much more to explore. Inside the huge hangar, you’ll walk through centuries of aviation history, with real, life-sized airplanes, cars, and other historic vehicles from each era.
On the top floor, you can peek inside a space shuttle, learn about astronauts, and explore the solar system through fun and interactive displays.
And that’s just the inside! Outside, kids can spend hours in a massive playground that includes:✈️ A go-karting track✈️ A flight simulator✈️ A real KLM airplane they can enter and even stamp a mini passport!… and plenty more to fuel their imagination.
It’s educational, hands-on, and super fun for the whole family.

4. Het Amsterdamse Bos (The Amsterdam Forest)
For me, forests in the Netherlands feel truly magical — endless shades of green, peaceful trails, and that fairy-tale atmosphere. Our favorite is Het Amsterdamse Bos, just outside the city. It’s perfect for long walks, relaxing in wide open fields, or splashing in the shallow water pools on sunny days (yes, we do get a few!).

One highlight my kids absolutely love is the Fun Forest climbing park – a treetop adventure with high ropes and zip lines. (I tried it once... and let’s just say they were braver than me! 😅) You can also visit the goat farm, which is perfect for younger children. There are friendly animals to feed, and a cozy café to relax in.
5. Pure Markt – The Roaming Market
This is such a great idea: a pop-up market that travels through different parks and forests in the Netherlands!

At Pure Markt you’ll find: 🍽️ Delicious world food from food trucks 🍯 Artisan Dutch products straight from farms — honey, cheeses, wine, and more 🍺 And yes, a cold beer in the sun while the kids run around nearby? Yes, please!
It's a great way to enjoy nature and discover amazing local flavors. 🔎 Check their website for the current schedule and locations https://puremarkt.nl/agenda/
